CHILDRENS TOP

To fit chest 20 (22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32) inches. 51 (56, 61, 66, 71, 76, 81) cms
Length from top of shoulders  12 (13.5, 15, 16.5, 18, 19.5, 21) ins.
           30 (34, 38, 42, 46, 49, 53) cms.
Sleeve seam  4 (5, 6, 6.5, 7, 7.5, 8) ins.  10 (13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 20) cms.
Any double knitting wool x 25 gram balls 6(8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15)
Pair each of Nos. 3.25 mm (10) and 4mm (8) needles
Sizes. The figures in brackets (  ) refer to the larger sizes.
Abbreviations.  K – knit, St – stitch, SLIK – slip stitch knitways
      INS – inches, CMS – centimetres, MM – millimetres,
      Gst – garter stitch – every row knit.

BACK AND FRONT (alike) with No. 3.25mm (10) needles cast on
56(60, 66, 70, 76, 80, 86) sts and work 10 rows in garter stitch.

Change to No. 4mm (8) needles and continue in stocking stitch (one row knit and one row purl) until work measures 7(8, 9.5, 10.5, 12, 13, 14.5) ins. ending with right side facing for next row.
Cast on 20(26, 30, 32, 36, 38, 40) sts. At beginning of the next two rows for sleeves.  96(112, 126, 134, 148, 156, 166) sts.

Next Row SLIK k. to end.   Repeat last row until work measures 11.5(13, 14.5, 16, 17.5, 19) ins.

To Form Neck cast off 20(26, 30, 32, 36, 38, 40)sts. at beginning of next 2 rows and then cast off 16(18, 20, 20, 20, 20, 20) sts. at beginning of the following 2 rows.   Rib 6 rows on these last 22(24, 26, 30, 36, 40,46) sts.
Cast Off.

To Make Up.   Join sides and under arms.  Join upper sleeve and shoulders, including the edge of the ribbed neck band.
